Summer trains between London and south of France

Summer trains between London and south of France

This summer Eurostar service from London direct to south of France is the perfect way to head between London, Lyon, Avignon and Marseille.

You really can travel direct by train from London to Marseille by train in summer, between beginning June and mid-September. It’s a special summer service, on weekends only, and takes 6 hrs 28 mins, boarding at London’s St Pancras International and disembarking in Marseille’s St Charles station, in the heart of the city.

This direct journey from London to Marseille avoids Paris, heading south via Lille, Lyon and Avignon. It departs from London Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays (Sundays during July and August) at 07.19 hrs and arrives in Lyon at 13.00, Avignon at 14.08 and Marseille at 14.47. Marseille’s St. Charles station has views across this magnificent maritime city. A great place to take stock of the 1240km that you have just travelled.

The Rhône route - Lyon

A large part of this journey through France follows the natural artery of the Rhône river through Lyon and Avignon. Swim in the Rhône outdoor pool in Lyon, dine at one of many of the city’s riverside restaurants or join the Via Rhôna long-distance cycling trail

The Rhône route - Avignon

Avignon’s history with the Rhône is best associated with the song Sur le Pont d’Avignon. It is like the lifeblood of this city, which also boasts the UNESCO ancient city centre. Book now to attend the world famous Avignon Arts Festival throughout July.

Your final stop - Marseille

Marseille is just made for summer - saunter around the Vieux Port, feast on fresh seafood or hike in Les Calanques. Cultural highlights include the Musée des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée at the mouth of the harbour and the Five Continents Jazz Festival in July.
